United for Families unmasks premiere event this monthMystery will be waiting around every corner Oct. 28 at United for Families' debut fundraising event, Le Bal Masque.
The formal, masked affair is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at PGA Country Club in St. Lucie West and boasts an hour open bar, music from a nine-piece orchestra, fine dining, a tableside wine auction and silent auction.
Auction items include round-trip airline tickets, a stainless steel grill, local art, Disney Park Hopper passes, entertaiment packages, home-improvement packages, and much, much more.
Tickets will be on sale through Oct. 20 and can be purchased online at unitedforfamilies.org or by calling 398-2920.

 Toyota of Stuart is Le Bal Masque's Phantom sponsor. Owner John Pierson contributed $5,000 to the event.
 Cloudspace, UFF's website manager, is a Chandelier Level sponsor, having contributed $1,000.
 Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers is Le Bal Masque's media sponsor, and has contributed more than $8,500 worth of advertising for the event.
 Culpepper & Terpening, a Fort Pierce engineering firm, is a Masquerade Level sponsor, having contributed $500.
 Florida Commercial, a commercial brokerage firm headquartered in Stuart, is a Chandelier Level sponsor.
 Proctor, Crook & Crowder, an accounting firm in Stuart, is another Masquerade Level sponsor.

- United for Families' Chili Taste Off will be hosted tonight at 6:30 p.m. by Beef O'Brady's. The community is invited to attend the event and help decide which of UFF's submitted chili recipes will represent UFF at next week's Chili Cook-Off, a production of Exchange Club CASTLE.
- Le Bal Masque sponsors will be treated to a sneak preview of the masquerade event Thursday, Oct. 12, during the Sponsors Unmasked Champaigne Toast and Tour.
- United for Families kicked off its 2006 holiday gift drive this month with a 5,000-letter appeal for donors. If you belong to a church or any large group interested in coordinating a toy drive on behalf of UFF, please call Lea Ely at 398-2920 Ext. 308.
- The Community Resource Donations Drive is in full swing this month. If you can donate a crib, twin bed, baby goods or gently used clothing, please call Lea. All donations will be distributed to service center resource rooms for case managers and foster families.

Caregiver News- Please call Lea at 398-2920 Ext. 308 to sign your foster family up for the Adopt a Family holiday program. Once registered, we will pair your family to a local business, which will contact you regarding your foster children's Christmas wishes.
- New foster parents are encouraged to take advantage of United for Families' Foster Parent Mentor Program. Mentors are available 24 hours daily to help you find resources and troubleshoot problems. Call Trudy Persson, Foster Care Coordinator, at 398-2920 for more information.
- United for Families is looking for children's art to produce its holiday line of notecards. To submit your children's art, please call Christina at 398-2920 Ext. 302.
- The Martin County Foster Parent Support Fund is again available to all foster homes in Martin County. The fund is provided by the Children's Services Council of Martin County and can be used to pay for graduation expenses, trips to amusment parks and other quality of life experiences.
A similar fund, called the Ounce, is available to all other foster parents. Call Lea at Ext. 308 for more information.

- Exchange Club CASTLE's 25th Annual Chili Cook-Off is Oct. 13-14 at the St. Lucie County Fairgrounds. Come out and visit UFF at our booth.

- Hibiscus Children's Center's second annual golf tournament will be Oct. 26 at Pointe West Golf Club.The scramble-formatted tournament begins with a 10 a.m. registration and a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. The entry fee is $200 per person and includes a box lunch, awards, prizes, team photo and barbecue dinner buffet.
